We May Need To Talk About Something

Otherwise known as my first monthly wrap up May edition

I didn’t think I was going to do a May wrap-up because I didn’t think I had much to say but then I looked at my read pile and realized I had done a lot.
So without further ado here they are.

Death Is A Cabaret (An Antique Lovers Mystery #1)  By Deborah Morgan

I listened to this in audiobook format and it was just OK. I probably wont be picking up anymore in this series.

Molokai   By Alan Brennert

This was a really good book and I am glad I read it. However, the further out from it I am the more conflicted I am about it. On the surface it was a good book and I am glad I read it. Underneath all of that it brought up some feelings and questions about historical fiction and just other stuff I am still sorting through. I may do a post about it. For now click here if you want to read my review.

A Secret Life (Alias Prequel #2) By Laura Peyton

This book was a bit of a disappointment. It just didn’t feel like the author really got Sydney Bristow. Click here for my full review.

Beauty Queens By Libba Bray

I avoided this book for a long time, mostly because I don’t read a lot of YA and, I just assumed it would be standard fare. I was so wrong! I listened to this in  audio format and loved it so much I went out and bought a physical copy. Click here for my review and links to another review that’s way better than mine.

Night Swimming By Robin Schwarz

This book is the definition of mediocre. Not terrible by any means but not good either. It’s the kind of book you will quickly forget you read. I can imagine myself in a used bookstore years from now finding this book and thinking hey that sounds interesting and kind of familiar, and not remembering that I read it before. The Color Purple By Alice Walker

I have avoided this book for years because I knew it would change the way I viewed the movie. Well I read it I loved it and it changed the way I feel about the movie. So I am still formulating my feelings and thoughts and will be writing a post about it this month.

A Deep Dark Secret By Kimberla Lawson Roby

This was my first Roby and it was really good. This was a novella so it was a quick read. Roby is I believe best known for her Rev. Curtis Black series which i may pick up.

A Spark Of Death: The First Professor Bradshaw Mystery By Bernadette Pajer

This was an audiobook and well it was OK. I didn’t much care for the narrator but independent of that I didn’t really care for the book. It was slow and plodding for me. Needles to say I won’t be reading the rest in the series.

The Word: Black Writers Talk About The Transformative Power Of Reading And Writing By Marita Golden

This was an excellent book in every way. It’s non-fiction and the title tells you exactly what it is just talking about what reading and writing means to them.I found so many authors that I have added to my must read pile. The major takeaway is that I must read Native Son By Richard Wright NOW!  Almost every author said it was a must read.

How To Be Black By Baratunde  R. Thurston

Hilarious! I loved this book I laughed out loud numerous times while reading it. I bought the e-book but I think listening to the audio version would be great. Don’t be fooled by the title it’s not what you think!!

Inferno By Dan Brown

Yeah um this will be my last Dan Brown book. I listened to the audio book and I usually have no problem following along with a book I don’t drift or zone out, but I totally did with this. I love the guy who narrates but that’s about it. I know there are Dan Brown die-hards and so I am sure he will always have an audience, he just isn’t for me anymore.

Everything and Nothing: The Dorothy Dandridge Tragedy By Dorothy Dandridge and Earl Conrad

So now I want to read everything about Dorothy Dandridge ever!. I also want to watch the movie with Halle Berry again. I loved this book it gave so much insight into Dorothy as a person since it was straight from her mouth.  Here is my full review

Of all the books I read Beauty Queens and The Word win for favorites of the month.

This month I also saw 3 new movies which is kind of unusual for me.

First up Iron Man 3 which I loved so much. I love Iron Man and I love Marvel comic book/superhero movies so much. It’s my favorite Iron Man by far can’t wait for 4 and Avengers 2

Second I saw The Fast and The Furious 6 it was freaking amazing!! I can’t say enough how much I love the Fast franchise it just keeps getting better. I also wrote a post about this movie and guilty pleasures in entertainment click here if you want to check it out

Third was The Great Gatsby. This movie was everything I wanted it to be and a little more. I love Baz Luhrman so I knew I would like it. I went in thinking I was going to dislike Toby Maguire since I dislike him in general but, I was surprised that I didn’t hate him.

So I loved all these movies but one raced ahead of the pack. Ha Ha get it raced ahead?!  Fast 6 wins hands down as my favorite movie this month.

All right ladies and gents that’s what I read and watched in May. What did you do in the month of May.Have you read or watched any of these. Do you disagree with me about some of these? Let me know in comments.

Until Next Time
